snapshots and observations

on my coffee table this week

from 1960 to the present day
three very stylish looking pieces

book: doctor in clover by richard gordon
published in 1960 and later made into a film starring my old mate leslie phillips.
i picked this gem up in the book drop in our post room. the cover artwork is amazing.
i especially like the clover and the stethoscope on the spine.

dvd: oss 117 lost in rio
set in 1967 but this was made in 2009.
oss 117 is france's answer to james bond and ( grrr ! ) actually pre-dates ian fleming's
bond novels by 4 years ( grrr ! )
jean bruce wrote 91 oss 117 novels and 7 were made into films.
this is one of two films which parody oss 117.
i heartily recommend it. i bought this copy from the ica shop on the mall but i dare say
amazon sell it a lot cheaper.

cd: we're new here by jamie xx
i think this only came out a few days ago ( i bought it on sunday )
jamie smith from the mercury prize winning 'the xx' remixes gil scott-heron's
album 'i'm new here'
i won't try to describe it. have a read of some reviews online. it might not be
everybody's cup of tea but it's a pretty amazing project. great for driving,
great for listening to with headphones on your way to the millennium cafe.

if it's a while since you bought a cd, this is the one to start again with.

now it's time for a coffee
